Perfect Ponte

November 4, 2013

Ponte Collage at The Pretty Dish copyI find it so incredibly flattering that this blog has led people to appreciate my point of view when it comes to style. On this note, a friend from college recently asked for my recommendation on a great pair of leggings. One that can withstand multiple washes without fading, isn’t too tight at the top (who wants muffin top??) or too loose throughout, causing you to have to adjust them all day like a bad pair of pantyhose. Sokeng, this one’s for you!

For me, the keys to a great pair of leggings are in the waistband and the fabric. The waistband should be 1-2 inches wide. This way it doesn’t pinch or create a spillover effect. On the contrary, it should provide a little bit of control. The fabric should always be ponte knit. Ponte is, in a word, perfect. It’s a double-knit polyester/rayon/spandex mix that’s soft, but more heavyweight than your typical cotton/spandex legging fabric. It also doesn’t fade after multiple washes and the substantial nature of the material makes it easy to dress up or down. Also, it is thick enough to hide the trouble areas that your average pair of leggings might accentuate.

The options pictured above are all $30 or under. Enjoy!
