High and Low: Leopard Print Peplum

March 4, 2012

Admit it – you’ve seen the word “peplum” popping up in your favorite fashion mags and on your top blogs. Yet you aren’t quite  sure what it means. So here you go, a little gift from The Pretty Dish:

Pep·lum: A short flared, gathered, or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of a woman’s jacket, dress, or blouse.

There you have it. The concept is quite simple, and way easier to rock than you might think. Today I’ll focus on tops, although peplum skirts and dresses are super chic for spring, too.

Consider boosting your wardrobe with an animal print peplum top. I came across this Giambattista Valli number that, while cute, is way over budget for me at $1,430. OUCH.

Now check out the one below from Way more in my price range, at $44.76. Yes! It can be easily paired with a black pencil skirt. Conservative enough for work, but the print is fun enough to take you into evening cocktails. Available for purchase here.

What spring trends do you look forward to wearing this year?
